Dog-Speak: A Yorkie's Top 5 Phrases

This New Year's Day, while my husband watched football games, I hung out with the Yorkies. They helped me compile "Yorkie-Speak," a list of canine vocabulary words. If you are owned by a furry person, chances are your dogs have given you a list, too.

#1: New Baby
Translation: My mother is going to Publix to buy me a squeak toy. Yay!

#2: I won't wear a dress!
Note: This sentence is often accompanied by the "stink eye."

#3: Another cookie, please?

 #4: I need beauty sleep.

#5: Go outside
Translation: I love grass and wind and things that smell good and rank.

No matter the breed, dogs understand what we crazy humans say.

  5. You're fur babies are adorable!
I have a teacup chihuahua who is a momma's girl. She gives me looks when she has something to say too. Lately, it's just been "hold me! I'm so cold!" I wrap her up in her blankie and carry her around the house with me. That's what I'm suppose to do right? :-)

  6. We are so lucky to be owned by our sweet little Yorkies. Annie and Mazzy look very much like your's. They let me know what they want with looks and a few barks. I am so well trained it's amazing. My favorite is the staring at the refrigerator for a cube of cheese.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

  8. My daughter has a rescue dog whom we say was more of a foster care dropout since he had 3 previous owners. One girl brought him back after 2 days stating that the "devil was inside of him". Alas, my daughter did stick with him and it's coming on 2 years (feels much longer). He is part Yorkie and part Shitzu and a hellion for sure especially when it comes to cookies. Nugget is one crazy character but somehow he makes me laugh with all of his antics whenever he comes to my home.

  9. This cracks me UP every dingle dangle night.....my lil poodle, sophiejane, gets in the bed with me and goes straight under covers. If the electric blanket is NOT on, she comes right into my face and looks at me...then the controller..me..then the controller. Soon as I touch controller, she slides right back under the covers and snuggles in for the night. highlarious, I tell ya!!!

  10. Oh, Michael. What adorable photos! My "baby" Vern tips his head so cute when he hears the word: Walk! He loves to go for walks with me. Thank goodness, because if it wasn't for that...I'd probably always have an excuse for NOT walking! :)
    Happy 2012!

  14. Love this post...and all the delightful photos!

My Rowdy, a golden mix, looks at you, then the cookie jar, then you, then the jar...saying "Hey...get with the program. I want a treat!" Of course, if it's a chewie, he looks at the top of the fridge...It cracks me up!

ps Just heard from my sis today...I gave her a copy of "GWAHM" and she absolutely LOVED it. She said it was one of the most enjoyable books she has read in a long time. Thought you'd like to know...

  15. My dog uses sign language along with his expressions and voice. If he wants out: "Uh." while he pads his feet up and down. If he's hungry: "Uh." and then he licks his lips. He also made up a game he plays by placing his ball on an old towel and giving it a good shake. He has to go find the ball and then repeats. He can ammuse himself for hours.

  16. We don't have dogs either but have 'dog sat' two, the most recent of which was our daughter and SIL's while they went to the Rose Bowl this past weekend. Her favorite dog thought/phrase would be..."Wherever you go, I will follow - especially if you're going into the kitchen!"

  17. This is adorable! I have a yorkie :), lab, weimaraner and a rescue dog. Each one has their own personality, but the yorkie rules the roost!!!

  18. What a sweet pup you have!! Yes, we have a dog, I mean person, in our family who has dog-speak translations. When I have to go to work, I give her a little chew bonie and she won't touch it or take it from me because she is upset I am leaving. When I come home, after she has politely said her hellos, she goes for the bonie and runs to the bedroom.

Squeeker pup is her little baby toy with the squeeker. When we say squeeker or squeekie, she runs and gets it and makes it squeek.

Bye bye and check the mail are two phrases that get her to the back door and eager to go!!

Thanks for the chance to share. My baby is a Pom by the way.
