Farmhouse Tea on a Sunny March Afternoon Plus Give-away Deadlines and Info

Last year, I fell in love with four green cups--they lacked saucers and a pattern name. The bottom of each cup was smooth and unmarked. The lack of saucers didn't stop me for a second. Why, I could use them for tea or to hold paper clips or to hold bouquets.

When it comes to tableware, I fall in love too easily. Naturally I scurried to the check-out counter! These cups reminded me of Martha Stewart in her early days (though I do recall she had saucers). They're unmarked, so I'm calling all Dish Detectives. Do you recognize these cups? If you have any clues, I'd appreciate it so much if you'd let me know.
I have been craving warmth and sunlight, and the only way I'm able to do it is through tablescaping. Since we're having soup and sandwiches this afternoon, I decided to pull out bright orange dishes--what could be better than the zinnia dishes and my English tea set?
The tea set has darling little pieces. Each one resembles a thatched cottage. UPDATE: Rose from Second Hand Rose, who lives in the UK, has identified the tea set as Burlington Ware (made in England). Thank you so much, Rose!
But the mystery continues to swirl around the La Martha cups ....

My much-loved bunny tureen (Fitz & Floyd) and much-used faux paper whites were called into action for a centerpiece.

I love floral dishes because they really do brighten the table and seem to banish winter ("Sculptured Zinnia" by Poppytrail/Metlox).
The old green glassware looks so pretty when the sun decides to shine.

As I was loading the photos, it struck me--I forgot to add napkins. Gollum dear, get a handle on things!

That's what happens when I get caught up in little thatched English cottages, sunflowers, and mysterious green teacups.

A sherbet glass makes a darling vase.

Information about Contests and Give-aways at DBG:

The winner of the "Caption the Photo" contest is.....

"That is one big decorating faux paw!"
-- Santamaker
A heart-felt thanks to everyone who entered the contest! Your words filled this house with smiles.
Dr.Big and Bandwidth said it was too hard to pick a winner as the entries were witty and hilarious. Mister is a ASID-Canine Member and loathes design "faux paws," so this caption suited him to a T-bone. Santamaker, please send your address so you can start baking in your new pan!

If you didn't win, there's still a chance at tomorrow's Foodie Friday to enter the give-away for a 20-pc set of Treble Clef flatware.

The Le Creuset give-away on Facebook ends April 1st.

Look for more contests and games as DBG celebrates two years of blogging in April.

You have until April 2nd at midnight to enter the Food Photography Contest. The prize is a Cuisinart Sorbet/Ice Cream machine.

For other door prizes, such as the KitchenAid mixer, the information can be found a million places on the sidebar.

  2. I had to laugh about the napkins missing. When I did my tablescape I took the photos and then noticed I had sat the salad fork down on the wrong side, next to the knife. I had to go back and take a ton more photos. LOL

It's so upsetting to see our mistakes on film. LOL

    Hugs,

  13. Michael Lee, Your Bunny tureen just stole the Tablescape show tonight. He is the most handsome tureen I have seen in a long time! I also think that the yellow floral embossed plates were calling my name! Yes, I could hear them. The bunny may have stolen the show, but they have stolen my heart! I love yellow!

Your table is a tribute to spring right down to the lovelypaperwhites "planted" in your ironstone pitchers.
And you are absolutely a dishaholic because you gave those pretty green cups a wonderful home and elevated them to being "Gollum tablescape worthy". I would have taken them home too. Wouldn't they look pretty with sherbert, or cereal or a big plump apple dumpling in them on a nice white plate? Food for thought.
Just a heads up... I always participate in foodie friday, but I may not be able to. I have had a dreadful case of bronchitis over the last couple days and have really not done much for my blog. The posts I have done were prepared earlier. So unless I post an old food post that no one has seen or have a miraculous recovery I may not participate. Boo-Hoo, sniff, cough, UGH!
Thanks for brightening up my day.

I can't help with the tea cups, but your thatched cottage tea set looks like a Burlingtons one - I have a biscuit (Cookie) barrel that matches it!

It's so funny that you speak of falling in love with the cups and that you fall in love too easily. So do I!!! And my overflowing cart from HomeGoods is only the most recent proof.

  18. You are so clever and talented! The juxtaposition of the Poppytrial Zinna and the impressive Bunny terrene plus the thatched cottages are so interesting and pull everything together. It is the look I want to learn to do. I am learning so much from you.

I have schemed in my mind how to use my zinna set in a TT someday! Couldn't top yours.

  43. Bonnie said she wanted "to learn how to do this". I honestly don't think it CAN be learned, Michael! At least, not to the level that you do it. Its genetic...you are an artist, truly & that eye for color & combinations comes naturally. *sigh*
Every single inch of this table exudes Spring & comfort & shows a deeply perceptive understanding of the human spirit. Thank you for lifting mine.
