A Pot O' Gold: Tour of Irish Homes

All of this rain has put me and Bandwith in a pub-seeking state of mind. While it would take a pot of gold to buy a "bit o' green" real estate in Ireland, it doesn't cost a Euro to look. (Pictured: Kinnitty Castle, price drastically reduced.) Want a peek inside? I do.

Hollon House, Hollon House, Castlewarden, Co. Kildare

This house looks quite fetching, with the curved gravel road bending out of sight.
I, Gollum, wonder how the Dryvit/stucco-ish exterior holds up in this climate--looks pretty good, looks like the roof isn't leaking, either!

Let's go inside. Bandwith approves of the flatscreen. Me, I love the tiny pot of pink tulips.

Love the paint color...and that mirror is beautiful. I love the black-and-white photograph, too.

Dr. Gollum would like this pool.
Love the kitchen.
Let's check out the garden...
What a view....

Moving right along to...
Woodcourt House, Kilsheelan, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary
A paved drive leads up to this stone house.
4 bay windows! One for each Yorkie, and me.
I love how the sun slices through the window...and the neutral color leads the eye to the outdoors.
Traditional living room
Okay, they had me at the kitchen. I love this room.
But the neutral walls and b&w photos make me think some of these photos are mixed up. . . oh, well, let's keep looking.
The entry...I love the detail around the door, and the sweeping staircase. However, I'd want to repaint...with the pot of gold in me mind's eye, of course.
Maybe the right pictures are here:

Knockbrit in County Tipperary
Another long driveway with sweeping views.
Sigh...can't you just see my chief donkey, Zeus, grazing here?
I love the clean lines...the black granite would show my multitude of cooking sins, but I'll not quibble.
A view to the pond.

Let's move to Mourne Park in Northern Ireland
Mourne Park, N. Ireland
This driveway reminds me of Vicky Darnell's (Roomservice101 blogspot) classic "I Can't Wait" photo.
Now, this is my fantasy idea of an Irish home, with a jacket potato mountain (dusted with parsley, of course) looming in the background.
Another pond. How many acres? asks Dr. G.
I love the paint color...but I'd have to play with the furniture arrangement. What? The furniture is extra?

Now let's stop in the pub to share house-peeking stories.

  2. Pack your bags, Gollum! Let's get there today. We have some exploring to do. I agree with the fussing with the furniture arrangement in that beautiful blue room. I think I could suck it up though and live with the rest. Loved wandering through the Iles with you today. Happy St. Patty's!

  3. The countryside shots are just breathtaking. With the long winter here, I forgot what green hills look like! I too like the sleek kitchen, but I'm not sure it goes well with these homes. I'd have to redo the space to give it more of an elegant country feel with just a hint of modern accents. Oh, I'd also need a butler's pantry for my butler! lol... Wonderful tour! Nancy

  4. Now this is eye candy! I love the drive to the Mourne Park home, but I love Vicky Darnell's drive, too. I'd like a green lush view like the Cloran home. I agree with Nancy jane, the kitchens are a bit modern for the setting, but that can be adjusted. ~ Robyn

  8. Good Rainy Morning Gollum - somuch for my pansy-planting plans. :-)
Funny you should mention UK properties. It has long been our dream to buy a vacation home in Scotland or England. We had been searching and then the dollar dropped. I think with all the health probs Mr Grits had lately, he has been thinking a lot. He said - :Let's really start looking, I ain't getting any younger." We can't afford any of the dream properties above - we just want a small cottage in a tucked away village. (Think Stratford-on-Avon). I really loved the last one, too. hmm...maybe one day when my lottery ticket is pulled. :-D
Have a great indoor rainy day!

  28. Okay, I've come up with a fab idea. All of us blogger buddies should pool our money, buy one of these amazing houses and then use it as a communal bloggy vaca home! We'll all meet there twice a year. Sounds good, eh?

    Justine :o )

ps - thanks for thinking of me and Mr Grits. He is doing much better although still has a few weeks of recovery time. (if i last that long.) :- /
