Tonight's DVD Extra: Cake Stand Alert

While I HATE to contribute to any dish fetishes, I simply must tell you about a cake stand that I saw on Ebay. Several bloggers (that includes you, Helen :-)) have asked about my pedestal. I didn't buy mine here, but it sure does look similar. It's $18.00.

  9. Hi Gollum, That is a stunning cake plate and at a "steal" price. The one I have I wouldn't part with--it was given to me by a boy in the first class I ever taught. His mother told me he paid for it out of his allowance at an auction. That was 45 years ago. I don't know how many cakes I've baked and served from that plate. And I've never told my family where it came from. Pam

  12. I too LOVE dishes!!!!!The detailing is what really grabs me. The more cuts, curves, embossing, the more I like!!!!
I know you've received a tremendous amount of instruction for purchasing on ebay. I've only earned my brown belt. So my contribution will be...when checking your (Ebay) comparable prices, always incorporate the shipping. Sometimes an item marked to high, may actually be lower when the shipping is calculated. I check all sellers with the same item. You'd be surprised how prices will vary including shipping.

Open a line of communication. This works well if there was a bid I lost. I've contacted a seller to see if they had additional inventory or if I could order it. Most vendors are willing to help with personal request outside Ebay. Everything is negotiable!! Most will match the competitors price when asked, even after the transaction has been made.

    Sweet Wishes,
    Sara

  14. As I read your first post today, before seeing the DVD Extra, I sat here thinking almost out loud .. NOW, there she goes again with the cake stand tease. So funny! And now, in addition to Amazon.com I must trot off to Ebay!!!!!!!

  15. Yea! I just won a lovely white milkglass cakestand on Ebay! Believe it or not - the seller lives in a town only thirty or so miles from me! Had no idea until I placed my bid. Offered to come pick it up, but they don't do pick-ups - so she changed the rules to 'buy now' which I did! $22.00

  16. Alert! Alert! Good sellers on Ebay are a ray of sunshine. After I closed on the cake stand, paid with Pay Pal, the seller emailed me with word that somehow the cake stand had been damaged in her warehouse....she immediately had Pay Pal do a refund. Aren't folks great? However, I still have the unrealized dream of a new/old cake stand!
