I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to leave the mountain and go shopping--and not for food. I found a darling dresser that would be cute in Annabel's room. However, it was $250. I decided that I didn't love it that much.
And then I saw this low chest. $75. I paid for it and I was out the door.
Because the football games were on, Mr. Gollum said he would bring it into the foyer and I could tinker with the placement later. I did rather like it here--and thought about buying black paint and somehow restoring the lovely knobs. I love the storage, too.
Yes, it looked nice from this angle, too.
But then I remembered the bath in the upstairs guest room. It's one of those totally ignored spaces--haven't gotten around to doing more than setting out towels and soap.
And I am determined to make it lovely before Christmas!
There's a nice long wall in that bathroom. The Gold Curio is there now--but can't stay, of course. Never meant for it to stay. I could put the white chest here. Just huffing and puffing, no painting.
However, I am not sure it I want another boxy shape in here. (That said, the taller curio didn't do anything for this space). But there's no way to decide that without AUDITIONING the table.
With a lamp, or lamps, and a map of Venice (in sections) over it, or some sort of grouping, hmmm, it might be lovely.
Glad to hear that you're feeling well enough to go out shopping. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the chest you bought today and I'm sure you'll find the perfect spot for it in your beautiful home.
I think that it would be SUPER lovely, though the pop of white really made those sheep shine in the foyer. I love it when you buy things that can be useful in several areas of the house - makes you feel like you got a SUPER bargain, and even though $75 was certainly a bargain in my book, the fact that the piece is so easily moved from one space to another is just a HUGE plus! Great shopping Gollum!
ReplyDeleteGreat find. Just love the swirls on it. I love it when I find a great buy. Kathy
ReplyDeleteGG, now I KNOW we were separated at birth ~ "Yessireebob" ~ I, too, MUST GET O-U-T (translation: "go shopping"!) when I've been sick ~~~ it's just plain, good ol' American "get well therapy"! (I'm VERY patriotic, you know!). And, you did VERY WELL (but I think you should have bought the bigger chest, too ~ as a sort "get well gift to yourself!). I adore your foyer pic with the sheep ~ and so befitting Lady Gollum's surroundings!!! Glad to know you are better & back to creating ~ "GG withdrawal" is NO fun, I must admit!!! Great read here ~ enjoyed it IMMENSELY, so, thank you yet once agan! XO, Linda
ReplyDeleteAnxious to see where the lowboy ends up. It is beautiful wherever. I do like it in the foyer.
ReplyDeleteI loved the chest with the painting, so they have to stay together...lol you did good ! vickydarnell
ReplyDeleteIt does look good in your foyer and by the way..
ReplyDeleteI love the painting of the sheep hanging above it!
Have a beautiful weekend!
ROFLMAPPIMP!!!! I laughed so hard about your brother and the birds, I nearly wet myself!!! Can he come down here and help me out, I'll buy all the beer he wants for a whole year! LOL!!! Thanks for the laugh first thing this morning! Buffie : )
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to read your blog for today....brb.
That was a steal, $75.00?!? I wanna go shopping with you, lol!! I think it'll look smashing in there!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm...I think where ever you put it, it's going to fit right in. And I sure like your idea of the accents around it!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have to agree with Artie, does make the sheep shine! And I also have to agree with Linda, I think you owe yourself the other chest too! Sometimes the loooong lasting effects of a cold are sheer drudgery~~more shopping has been proven to help with that! :-)
By the way, I LOVE the tilework in the bathroom!!!
Tomarie
What a cute piece & great price! I know you will find just the right spot for it. I have no more room for big pieces now. How fun to move it from place to place.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Gollum! You're baaack! I'm so happy! Glad you got off the mountain. Did you feel as if you were being held hostage? Love your purchase and what a great price. Can't wait to see where it lands. Happy Sunday! Carol
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it! I have been away from blogginf for a while I need to get caught up. Jamie
ReplyDeleteHi Gollum,
ReplyDeleteThat is a good looking chest for $75.oo
I want something very similar for our bonus room to put the TV on!
I think it would look great anywhere in your home...your pictures are lovely!
Diane
Wow, that's a beautiful piece for only $75!!!!!!!! Where do you find these deals? Can't wait to see where you decide to put it!
ReplyDeleteJustine :o )
You've made a steal on that fabulous piece, Gollum! Just recently I had read how to remove paint from hardware. Remove the hardware and place the pieces in a pot of boiling water with one quarter cup of baking soda and boil for 10 to 15 minutes. Supposedly the paint peels right off. Oh, I agree with Artie, my immediate impression was the relation between the white of the piece and the sheep. But then, black would be anchoring. No matter what, the piece is great!
ReplyDeleteGollum, if I had seen that gorgeous low chest first I'd have bought it! Great price too! Love it!! And the gold curio is so dainty and sweet and I really like unexpected pieces like that in rooms they normally wouldn't be found. Your foyer and home is so beautiful. I'm glad you let us get a peek at more of it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better. :)
Suesue
I second the foyer placement. Glad you are on the mend, missed you.
ReplyDeleteYou lucky bum you,all I got today was some more dirty old clay pots and a few old keys....oh well, I plan on having fun with them while my boys are glued to the football today too!! Take care, stop by sometime .Chrissy
ReplyDeleteGreat buy on the chest! My favorite spot so far is under the sheep. Painted a soft black would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteI was so thrilled to see that you're feeling better! Gollum withdrawal is no fun.
Diane
Yes! You're back! (and hopefully in the pink again)... I too, like how the low chest makes the sheep pop out of the picture in the foyer. I was wondering if you kept in there, and did change the hardware to black, if it would bring out the black feet of the sheep in the picture as well. An interesting piece. It's nice to be able to change these finds from room to room, it's what makes a house interesting.
ReplyDeleteCame by w/ a thought I had while, get this (!), brushing my teeth earlier this a.m.! Was picturing a deep, "charcoalish", almost black, color on the chest & some sort of black n' white check painted on the top, then rubbed in places w/ sandpaper and THEN glazed over to be soft and old looking ~~~ The size & scale of your piece is great for under that WUNNAFUL pic of the sheep, and I don't THINK it's "too" countryish if the base is as described ~~~ (may be a great way to "silently speak volumes" about your fab life "on the farm", so to speak, and without the "kitsch"!). If it's a CRUMMY idea?... then CAROL thought of it!!!! (Insert silly Sunday giggles here!!)~ Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteArtieBen beat me to the punch. The sheep do POP with that placed in the foyer. It fits perfectly there. I would almost be tempted to leave it there. At $75 it is a great deal. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteI did not think of it... but I wish I had! Gollum, do that paint finish to THE PIECE and if you don't like it, I'll come to the mountain and take it right off your hands. If I visit, would you make me pineapple upsidedown cake? Oh wait, sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. Just blame it on the weekend!!! Carol
ReplyDeletegollum, I'm so glad you're back, and well enough to go shopping! That doesn't have to be too well, does it? LOL! I absolutely love the low chest and I love it in the foyer,it does pick up the white sheep, and their black feet and black in the floor, ties is perfectly with the black handles! I think all the swirls looks like white icing, I love it , and I would have thought it would cost more that the first one, great price! I love the song, 10,000 miles and had never heard it before, glad you brought it back! Connie
ReplyDeleteYour new lowboy is so pretty - perfect match for the sheep painting - agree with others that the white paint brings out the white sheep - however, black hardware would tie everything together with the black floor diamonds and black sheep feet. BTW, your guest bath is beautiful the way it is and I'm betting you get lots of compliments on it.
ReplyDelete:-) - SherylCanadianGirl
Connie, I thought the same thing--icing!
ReplyDeleteWhat I didn't show you all was a picture of the foyer. I have a black bombe chest on the other wall, and from one angle it looks way too close to massive jars that my husband bought. At one time the bombe chest and a gilt mirror were on the wall where the sheep painting is currently hanging.
I do love the chest and hate to do away with the lucious icing look.
I am thrilled that it's versatile. Even Mr. Gollum likes it and thought it was a good buy.
It could also work as a window seat if I added a cushion. And an adorable toy box for Miss Annabel.
Linda and Carol, I love the idea of a checkerboard top. Linda, if I can get the shop to come down on the price of the first chest, I might snap it up. lol
Glad you are feeling better Gollum, Your new purchase is just beautiful, I love your idea of putting it in the bathroom with the map of venice, that would look so lovely with your tiles. I also really like your blue glass jars in the bathroom, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteKathy. (I have moved)
Hey girl...love that new found 'treasure'! I looks gorgeous under the sheep and you know my vote is for black paint and I love the checker board with some sanding effect on top...that is just a great piece no matter where or how it ends up! Thanks so much for coming by girl..hope you have a great week and that baby Annabel is adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal you got! Can't wait to see where it will end up in your home & how it will look after you do your magic!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal you got! Can't wait to see where it will end up in your home & how it will look after you do your magic!
ReplyDeleteGollum I'm so glad to see you back and postin'! There must have been something in the air this weekend....a siren song to bargain shoppin'!! I found some treasures myself *winks* I love the placement in the foyer under that marvelous painting of sheep! I have an obsession with sheep for some strange reason.....And what a great deal!! You done good girl! Vanna
ReplyDeleteI just drool over everything you do!
ReplyDeleteLove it all!
You are so incredible in what you do!
Girl.. you find some of the greatest treasures... glad you feeling better... I believe I would go back and try to snatch up the first one as well.. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteGood morning Gollum :)
ReplyDeleteThat pice is amazing anyway, but for $75? It's incredible! Great job on finding it.
Annabel is absolutely darling. Being a grandma must be so much fun :)
I hope you're feeling better!
Oh and the patio table is now in the POD :(
hugs,
rue
I love this piece. It makes me want to go exploring for treasures next time we're at the lake!
ReplyDeleteI love it under those great looking sheep.
If I were to paint it, I'd go with a heavy cream color or a distressed satin black.
Glad you are feeling better!
I had stated earlier that I love your guest bath the way it is... this morning I took another look and STILL love it, although now I am wondering how much more fabulous it would be after you put your artistic hands to work. 'BIG SMILES' Can't wait to see what you do to an already really beautiful and elegant space. :-)
ReplyDelete- SherylCanadianGirl
I think that piece is beautiful, but $250? With your talent, I think you'll find a bargain and make it just as beautiful...heck, probably even better!
ReplyDeleteMadam G, Love the chest! When one purchases from the heart it is always amazing how it can go into your home in so many places. I can't wait to see what you do with it. Love the sheep painting and I love your entry floor. I was suprized to see you and I have that in common. I have my entry with the same floor. It was a dream of mine for many years. I would love to see the bombe chest. I love all that you create. Look forward to seeing the painted basement, is Mr Tom finished? Smiles Kathysue[rms]
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal! I love it! I really love those white pieces you have sitting on top of the gold curio! Those look gorgeous!!! I had to click that picture to enlarge so I could see them better. I always feel like I'm snooping around someone's home when I do that!!! LOL
ReplyDelete$75.00??? That was a steal to say the least!! Can't wait to see what it looks like;) French
ReplyDeleteAgree...the foyer looks the best. What a great find. Like the other piece too. I believe a friend told me you can soak old hardware that has been painted in amonia for a short amount of time (say 5 mins.), and it will pull restore it to it's original color. Can't remember if you need to mix it w/ equal parts water. You could probably find that on the internet somewhere.
ReplyDeleteno...no...no...it will look awful anywhere...you should just wrap it up and send it to me to get rid of for you (wink wink)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had stores like you seem to find...and a Mr. Tootsie that was so helpful!
glad to see you are back to healthy and getting back to business.
if you do decide to rid yourself of that fantastic piece....I could be talked into "storing " it for you!
OOOH what a steal! I love it...and how cool that it works in so many places! I can't wait to see the final home for this beauty.
ReplyDeleteI love your new chest. What a deal. I really like how it makes the sheep pop right out of the print in the foyer. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with it.
