Labors of Love

When you see a beautiful space, the elbow grease is invisible.

These homeowners have invested their time, dreams, and energy into creating memorable spaces. And decorating can be a tad dangerous....climbing tall ladders to hang mirrors or painting the trim along a ceiling isn't for the faint-hearted.And decorators take risks in other ways, too.

These spaces were lovingly put together with inspiration and perspiration...lifting heavy furniture, getting glue on fingertips, or digging into the dirt. But the end result was worth it.

Rooms and gardens are more than objects--they are the stuff of dreams. Kudos to the design community!

  2. Great idea, linking Labor Day to decorating! Whenever I watch HGTV I think about all the behind-the-scenes people doing the grunt work, as well as the designers who pitch right in. The handy homeowners are the ones of whom I am in awe!

  3. Happy Labor Day, Gollum! Please don't think I'm ignoring you. I visit your blog most every day, just haven't had time to comment. I am honored that you inserted into your collage my photo of the dawn redwood on the edge of our woods. I recognize some of the photos from RMS, like Vicky Darnell's and Tootsie's yards. And is that starfish from GardenGirl0106's blue gravel? Our landscaping project would have been ho-hum without the inspiration and support from RMSers. I must tell you what a life-saver you have been. Your tears and heartaches over RMS became a force and power for good. Many thanks! Fieldstone/Pam

  10. This was such a great idea, Gollum! Most of these I can recognize but some are buried deep in the caverns of my brain. Glad there wasn't an all expense paid vacation as the prize. I'd sadly be left on the curb, waving good-bye! So many great spaces. I'm so proud of everyone and you've brought back such special memories of RMS! Thanks, Gollum, just for being you! love ya, Carol

  12. Wonderful combination of all those spaces we love best at RMS! They are an inspiration to us all though, as I was up on my ladder last night wallpapering a guestbedroom ceiling (that neat tin looking wallpaper) and having it come down on me I was beginning to wonder about going overboard in my attempt to work out this inspiration in my home!! LOL-After a major panic attack we did manage to finish the ceiling!!! :) Happy Labor Day! mary

  21. Well I actually bought a cast iron frying pan and it was HEAVY. I had it in the oven for 5 hours last night and today my daughter whipped up your pineapple upside down cake for guests. It was really good and everyone enjoyed it. Thanks gollum.

  24. Decorating can definitely be hard labor...but generally a labor of love. I love the pictures...I looked at each one adn was surprised at how many I could put with the names of the owners. You picked some gorgeous spaces...and thanks so much for including some of mine! I'm giggling at the picture on the sidebar of Mister in his halloween costume...He looks a bit perturbed! Have a wonderful evening and a sparkling day tomorrow!
