The names went into a pot, and Honey picked....Homer! Thanks to everyone for helping us name the little jack foal.
**Update
Someone commented on the dark dorsal "cross" across the mother donkey's withers.
According to Wiki, "Legend has it that the cross on the donkey’s shoulders comes from the shadow of Christ’s crucifixion, placing the donkey at the foot of the cross."
*** Oh GG, he is sooooooo precious, and "Homer" just "works" ~ what a joy to just SEE him there! Blessings and WELCOME, dear lil' Homer!
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Gollum! Oh, what a little precious thing! and a cute little name for him, too! Little Homer! I love that little picture of little Mister smiling on your sidebar, too!

I actually crossed my fingers as I opened this post hoping that Homer would be the name you chose. lol
ReplyDeleteI think he looks like a Homer and I'm glad Honey likes it too.

Homer is a perfect name for the beautiful baby boy. Is he reacting to his new name yet?
ReplyDeleteDiane
ADORABLE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have the best of both worlds. ANIMALS and PEOPLE who think the the world of you.

Welcome to the world Homer.
ReplyDelete:-)
I am sooo relieved! The moment after I clicked on publish after suggesting Charlie, I felt a pang of regret... You see, Charlie is my husband's name and at the time, I was annoyed at him for some stupid reason...so, I'm glad that the little "jack-ass" (said in the most affectionate tone) wasn't named after my hubby! LOL... Homer fits him to a T ! He is adorable.
ReplyDeleteHe's adorable! I love the markings they all have across the shoulders (?)! I wish I could have some animals where I live - other than cats and dogs, I mean. Thanks for sharing Homer with us! Karin
ReplyDeleteYAY! I'm so glad you picked Homer! I loved that B came up with that name! YAY!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to meet you Homer..you're sure a cutie...hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still think he's got the look of a Sebastian, but I love Homer too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJustine :o )
I like it! It fits Homer perfectly! I remember this blog but never entered my name as I have a terrible time naming anything! Our first son went a day and a half before he ever received his name and I had 9 months to figure that one out!!! I so want to name our new/old house but can't for the life of me think of name- all the town folk call it the big pink house but hopefully it won't be pink forever!!!

Good Morning Gullom,
ReplyDeleteHomer is such a suitable name for the little bugger! He is so adorable! I love animals! I think in my past life, I was Elliemae Clampett! (LOL)
Thank you so much for your help with choosing my Lamps! I am most certainly going to go get those Lamps! :) I hope that I dont run in to too much trouble finding two drum shades.
I checked out your pic "Basement Blues" and the mix of Traditional & Contemporary most certainly worked! You have given me hope! My vision is so poor when it comes to Decor. I have been reading so many magazines and books about Decor. I have subscribed to Veranda, Home Decor, Coastal Living and Traditional Living just to name a few. (I am learning alot) I hope one day soon my vision for fabrics, colors and style all come together.. In the mean time, I will be asking for your opinions!
(((((HUGS))))))

He looks kind of like a "Homer" ...but much smarter than the famous one!
ReplyDeleteI also thought it quite appropriate that Mister seems to be smiling his approval of Homer's name. Wonderful photos Gollum.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Do donkey's answer to their name?
ReplyDelete***GG~ It's a DELIGHT to see this "SWEET, HANDSOME BOY" in the headlines INSTEAD of politicians, even if just for a few minutes! THANKS for the breather!!! (I am a "news junkie"!)~~~ Hugs, Linda (& Belle)
ReplyDeleteHomer is a "perfect" name what a little cutie pie!!! French;)
ReplyDeleteA donkey knows his/her name--at least that's been my experience. Zeus can be on the other side of the farm, and if he hears his name, he trots over.
ReplyDeleteSomeone had asked about the dark lines--they are shaped like a cross. Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem. Legend states that the little donkey followed Jesus to Calvary. When Jesus was crucified, the shadow of the cross fell upon the donkey's shoulders.
Awww Homer is the perfect name for that adorable little guy! Vanna
ReplyDelete"Homer" is a perrrrfect name. (Way to go Bridget girl! Does this now mean Gigi, is his appointed guardian? JK)
ReplyDeleteThe pic on your sidebard of 'Mister' is absolutely priceless.
~GG, I never knew/heard that. It makes me pause, think and then cry. I'm so glad you shared that. Thanks so much. With much appreciation, hugs, Linda
ReplyDeletegollum, I had never heard about the shadow of the cross falling accross the donkey's shoulders That's amazing! I just love the name Homer for him and he is adorable, I also love animals! Connie/puddin07

ReplyDeleteLook at that little cutie! I think he's growing. I didnt know the story of the dorsal markings. I love that! Now, we're all going to be like doting aunts and uncles and want to see the occasional picture to watch that baby grow up! He's just so darned cute!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Glad little Homer has a good solid name! I bet he will be answering to it in no time. :-) Susan
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful legend about the cross across the doney's shoulders. I'm so glad to have learned that. I'll never look at a donkey the same way again! You just have so much to teach all of us, and in so many diverse areas!Homer is the perfect name for him. Luck of the draw! Laurie, a/k/a bargainhunr
ReplyDeleteHi Gollum :)
ReplyDeleteI had never heard that story before! Little Homer is absolutely precious :)
I know what you mean about the farm feeling like an island. My mom's ranch did too. Not so great when you try to sneak out at 16 and the driveway is 1/4 mile up hill LOL
hugs,
rue

ReplyDeleteDear Gollum,
ReplyDeleteIt's been a busy week and here I am just now finding out your donkey's name. Like everyone else, I feel it's a slam dunk. Or a home run. A classical name. Love the symbolism of the marking, too. Glad that there was wisdom in the drawing of this name. Fieldstone/Pam
oh how sweet!!! he's sooo cute - it must be so much fun to watch them - annie100
ReplyDeleteWe have three horses, and have had mules. I keep telling my husband we should "switch" and have donkeys instead. I just think they are the cutest things!! And love to hear them bray! After looking at all these pics, I've decided to start on some serious Husband Harrassment!
ReplyDeleteLove the name! :-)
